Recruitment
A. General Information
Perhaps the most important activity that we, as academic administrators, pursue is the hiring and evaluation of the professionals who work here at Loyola University. Therefore, the process of conducting a search, of building a pool of applicants that reflects the diversity and richness of our profession, of bringing candidates to campus for interviews, of judging the appropriate match with Loyola, and of negotiating with the preferred candidate is a matter of utmost seriousness.
Guidelines for the Issuing of New Faculty Contracts
These guidelines apply to all Loyola faculty, whether paid or unpaid, in both on-campus and off-
campus programs. (File requirements for full-time faculty or part-time faculty are listed
separately.) All original documentation should be filed with Academic Affairs. The Provost and Vice
President for Academic Affairs will issue a contract to a new faculty member after a complete file
is submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs.
Faculty Transcripts
Upon appointment, all faculty members whether full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid, in both on-campus and off-campus programs must submit official transcripts of their graduate work to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Only an official transcript physically prepared by the graduate institution itself fulfills this requirement. The transcript must bear the seal of the degree-granting institution; that seal must be distinguishable to the touch. Photocopies of official transcripts are not acceptable (except as allowed below).
Sabbatical
Before preparing and submitting your proposal, please consult with the dean of your college on the application deadline, issue of eligibility relative to any prior leaves and the established Faculty Handbook criteria relative to said leaves. Also, please consult with your department chair and dean on scheduling, course replacement issues and your proposed project.
Loyola University New Orleans Periodic Decanal Evaluations by Faculty and Staff
- The Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs conduct periodic evaluations of deans by their respective faculties and staffs.
- Ordinarily the initial evaluation of a dean by his/her faculty and staff is conducted in the spring semester of a dean’s first year in the position; and during every three academic years thereafter. Additional evaluations may be conducted at the discretion of the provost in consultation with a dean.
- Timing of the triennial review (fall or spring semester) will be determined by the provost.
